You have to be a bit of a nerd to really enjoy the Gear Fit 2 Pro. Several steps are necessary just to get the “Speedo On” swimming app running on the device. First, the watch must be paired with a smartphone because, like any other setting, apps are installed via the cell phone. If Speedo On is on the watch, registration with Samsung and Speedo follows. All of this is not really difficult and the Bluetooth connection with a Samsung smartphone is stable and fast. Those who don’t like technology could still have capitulated up to this point. On the other hand, would technology haters even buy a smartwatch? Rather not.
When swimming, the Gear Fit is ready for use in a flash. Two or three touches on the impeccable touch display are enough to start the app and set the pool length to 25 or 50 meters. Now you have to specify whether you want to complete a specific time, for example 60 minutes, or distance. Or you can just decide to swim away. “3, 2, 1, 0,” the display shows. Then it starts.
Our opinion
The evaluation is particularly detailed on the computer. Here you will receive all the information about pace, distance and stroke frequency after training, if you like for each individual lane. To keep you on the ball, Speedo provides users with training tips and training programs in English. Colorful badges also motivate you to keep swimming. You get this if, for example, you swim two, five or ten kilometers or complete a certain SWOLF.
Application
The smartwatch has a hard time during swimming training with technique exercises and intervals. Some tracks are not registered at all, others are much too fast or too slow. Longer crawl stretches work best.
Processing
The black Gear Fit 2 Pro sits elegantly on the wrist and also looks high-quality thanks to the curved display. The touch display reacts immediately to every press and swipe. The connection via WLAN and Bluetooth is automatic and stable. Only the battery could last a little longer than just two to three days.
Utility value
Thanks to GPS, fitness trackers and countless apps, the smartwatch can count pretty much everything the day throws at you. For example, steps, kilometers, stairs, pulse and calories. Hours of sleep, coffee consumption and drinking behavior can also be recorded. The only question is: Which of these do you really need?
Price-performance
For 229 euros you get a highly functional and visually appealing smartwatch for many occasions. The price is comparable to other wearables and sports watches.
Conclusion
The Gear Fit 2 Pro is an all-rounder with an integrated MP3 player, heart rate measurement and many preset sports. This is enough for normal use. Unfortunately not for precise training control and documentation.
